Dhaka, Feb 04 (V7N)— Students of Government Titumir College have ended their hunger strike after the interim government assured them that action would be taken on the demand to convert the institution into a university within the next seven days. However, they warned that if no progress is made, they will announce further protest programs.
On Monday night, the students broke their fast in the presence of Nuruzzaman, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Education, and Professor Shipra Rani Mondal, Principal of Government Titumir College.
During the protest, students demanded the postponement of final undergraduate exams for the affiliated seven colleges, citing the ongoing movement. However, Principal Shipra Rani Mondal stated that the decision was beyond her jurisdiction.
In front of the Joint Secretary, students insisted on a clear roadmap for upgrading the college to a university within a week. In response, Nuruzzaman assured them that the matter would be addressed.
The students of Government Titumir College have been demonstrating for several months, pushing for university status. Frustrated by the lack of progress, they launched a hunger strike last Wednesday (January 29) to intensify their demand.
With the government’s assurance, the strike has been called off for now, but students remain firm in their stance, vowing to resume protests if their demands are not met.
