Dhaka, Jan 04, (V7N) - National film award-winning actress Anjana passed away on Friday night at the age of 59 while undergoing treatment at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in Dhaka.
 
Misha Sawdagar, president of the Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association, confirmed the news of her death to the media, and actor Zayed Khan, along with other members of the film and entertainment industry, also shared the news on social media.
 
Anjana had been on life support for three days prior to her passing. She was admitted to a private hospital in Dhaka on December 24 with a fever. After further examination, doctors discovered a blood infection that spread throughout her body, affecting her heart, kidneys, and lungs, and causing a stroke.
 
Anjana’s funeral prayers (namaz-e-janaza) will take place on the premises of the Film Development Corporation (FDC) on Saturday at 11 a.m.
 
Born on June 27, 1965, in Dhaka (then part of East Pakistan), Anjana became one of the country's most celebrated actresses, particularly known for her dance skills. Over the course of her illustrious career, she acted in more than 300 films.
 
Her acting debut came in 1976 with the film Setu, directed by Babul Chowdhury, but her first released film was Doshshu Bonhur, directed by Shamsuddin Togor, in the same year. She gained widespread recognition with her breakthrough role in Matir Maya (1976).
 
Anjana starred in numerous successful films, many of which were with the iconic actor Razzak. Their notable collaborations include Ashikkhito, Rajanigandha, Ashar Alo, Jinjir, Anarkali, Bidhata, Bourani, Sonar Horin, Ram Rahim John, Matir Putul, Shaheb Bibi Golam, and Obhijan, among others.
 
She was married to producer-director Azizur Rahman Buli (1946–2022) and appeared in two of his films, Lalu Sardar and Nepali Meye. Anjana was honored with the National Film Award for Best Actress for her remarkable performances in Parineeta and Gangchill.
