DHAKA, June 24, V7N — A Dhaka court on Tuesday showed former lawmaker and popular singer Momtaz Begum arrested in a case filed over an alleged attempt to kill Md Mukter Hossain in Mirpur during the July 2024 mass uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam issued the order after police produced Momtaz before the court and requested she be shown arrested in the case. She was sent back to jail afterward.
According to case documents, Mukter Hossain joined the anti-discrimination student movement near the Mirpur Fire Service and Civil Defence Training Complex on August 4, 2024. Police and Awami League activists allegedly opened fire on protesters, leaving Mukter injured. He later received prolonged treatment at Kurmitola General Hospital.
Mukter filed the case with Mirpur Model Police Station on March 17, 2025.
