Passengers are demanding to increase the number of trains during the peak hours of the office hours due to the rush of passengers in the metro rail. They feel that there is no alternative to reduce the suffering before and after office.
Metrorail has eased the lives of many city dwellers in the ever congested Dhaka. According to the authorities, currently around 2.3 lakh to 2.4 lakh passengers use the metro every day. One out of six metro compartments is reserved for women passengers only.
Even though the train runs every 10 minutes during the peak hours of the office hours, the picture of crowded metro rail passengers is now a daily occurrence. After office holidays, the crowd is highest at Motijheel and Karwan Bazar stations. Again, during the morning peak hours, the most crowded is at Kazipara and Sheorapara stations.
Many passengers lose the opportunity to board the train due to overcrowding. If you wait too long at the station, you have to pay a fine. In this situation, passengers are demanding to increase the number of trains during peak hours.
Every compartment of the train is crowded. At the end of a busy day, passengers often lose their temper in such crowds.
To go from Motijheel to the destination after standing in the queue for a long time and pushing the ticket, finally it was time to board the train. When every train does not have such a situation, then the picture of Bagbitanda is daily.
Commuters say that the metro is very crowded on office opening days in the morning and on the way back in the afternoon. So many passengers wait for the next train. But in that train, Veer is seen more.
Same situation in Dhaka University and Shahbagh station. Caravan Bazaar is again the most crowded. There is no place to close the doors of the metro due to crowding. Even after waiting for a long time, there is no opportunity to board the train.
After waiting for hours at the station, there is a fear of fines again. Although there is no dissatisfaction or complaint on anyone's face. However, if the number of trains during the peak hours of office hours is increased, this suffering will end, passengers say.
In December 2022, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the metro rail in Dhaka. Diabari-Agargaon route was launched that year. In November 2023, the Prime Minister inaugurated the second phase from Agargaon to Motijheel.
The Uttara-Motijheel route has made life easier for many city dwellers in the ever-congested city of Dhaka. Mirpur-Agargaon-Farmgate-Motijheel route has also reduced traffic congestion.
