Dhaka, Dec 13 (V7N)- In a press release signed by Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the Acting Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Tarique Rahman, shared a heartfelt message in observance of Martyred Intellectuals Day.

In his message, Rahman expressed his profound respect for the memory of the intellectuals who were brutally killed by the invading forces and their collaborators during the Liberation War of 1971. He prayed for the forgiveness of their souls, emphasizing the loss of the nation’s "best children" who envisioned a prosperous and democratic Bangladesh.

Reflection on Martyred Intellectuals Day

Rahman described Martyred Intellectuals Day as a sorrowful chapter in the nation's history. He remarked that the massacre of the intellectuals was a calculated move to weaken the moral foundation of an independent Bangladesh, just before the nation’s victory in the Liberation War.

He also highlighted how, post-independence, undemocratic forces systematically eroded the democratic rights of the people, compromising the sacrifices made during the Liberation War. He alleged that the current government, led by the Awami League, has continued the legacy of such misrule by fostering division, suppressing democracy, and undermining the hopes of the martyred intellectuals.

Call for Unity and Democratic Revival

Rahman called upon the people to unite for the restoration of democracy and the establishment of an independent judiciary, rule of law, and a pluralistic political system. He urged everyone to work towards realizing the dreams of the martyred intellectuals and building a prosperous, self-reliant Bangladesh.

In his message, he also conveyed his deepest condolences to the families of the martyred intellectuals and reiterated the BNP’s commitment to honoring their legacy.

The statement serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the intellectuals and a call to action for national unity and democratic progress.
