Dhaka, Jan 01 (V7N) —BNP's central joint secretary, Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury, questioned the leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement about the purpose of holding meetings in the name of Unity, suggesting that such assemblies, speeches, and body language might support conspirators, looters, and fascists.
He raised this question on Wednesday during a discussion at the Institution of Engineers in Dhaka, held on the occasion of the founding anniversary of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.
Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury said: "At the March for Unity rally, we observed the kind of words they spoke, the kind of statements they made, and their body language. Our question is, why hold meetings in the name of Unity?"
The BNP joint secretary further said: "At the rally held at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka on Tuesday for March for Unity, several posters were seen. Some of them said, 'Those who are busy with voting and looting,' 'Kader + Mirza brothers, no peace in Bangladesh,' 'How can students of uncle’s age build Bangladesh?' Why would such speeches, posters, and body language emerge in that meeting?"
Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury said: "For the sake of democracy, we want unity. We demand justice for all the disappearances, killings, and atrocities committed by the previous government. First and foremost, we demand justice for Sheikh Hasina and her associates."
The meeting, chaired by Chhatra Dal's central president Rakibul Islam and general secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir, was virtually attended by BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman from London.
