Dhaka, Jan 10 (V7N) — BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan has stated that the party has not distanced itself from Jamaat-e-Islami. He made these remarks while speaking to reporters after a meeting with the Nationalist Like-Minded Alliance at the BNP Chairperson's office in Gulshan on Friday morning.
“There is no such thing as distance,” Nazrul Islam Khan said, responding to a question about BNP’s stance on Jamaat. He added, “If they say they are the only patriots, then it will be a little difficult. We are all patriots. I fought in the Liberation War, and then if you say that only you are a patriot, it is painful. We hope no one says such things.”
When asked about holding formal meetings with Jamaat-e-Islami, he clarified, “We were not formally in a simultaneous movement with Jamaat. Their program was not the same as ours. But they were in the movement. Surely, in the coming days, we will all be in the movement to restore democracy, and they will also be there. There is no confusion about this.”
The meeting, which began at 11:15 am and lasted for about an hour, was attended by prominent leaders from BNP and allied parties. Among the attendees were BNP standing committee member Selima Rahman, JAGPA president Khandaker Lutfar Rahman, Gano Dal chairman ATM Golam Maula Chowdhury, Bangladesh NAP chairman MN Shaon Sadeki, and several others.
The discussions primarily focused on strategies for the ongoing movement to restore democracy in the country, with an emphasis on unified efforts by like-minded parties.
