Dhaka, Jan 30 (V7N) — BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has criticised the government's approach towards prosecuting those responsible for past atrocities, stating that justice is crucial for the credibility of the interim administration.
Speaking at an event on Thursday afternoon at Naya Paltan, Dhaka, Rizvi addressed a financial donation program for disabled rickshaw puller Mamun, organized under the directives of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
Rizvi alleged that those responsible for indiscriminately shooting students and the public are not being held accountable. He claimed that instead, BNP leaders and activists are being falsely implicated in various cases. He also questioned why the state has not initiated legal action against those involved in past violence.
Referring to the victims of the "July Revolution," Rizvi called for justice and accused law enforcement agencies of turning a blind eye to the real perpetrators. "Those who shot Ahnaf have the soul of a bloodthirsty wolf," he said, adding that Sheikh Hasina has no regard for women and children, only power.
Rizvi went on to allege that Sheikh Hasina took pleasure in state-sponsored violence, saying, “Crossfire was a joy for her. She is a mentally unstable woman who delighted in the sight of bodies from the opposition.”
He also accused the government of shielding criminals while suppressing BNP supporters. "Terrorists are wreaking havoc in Dhaka, yet law enforcement does nothing. Those responsible for killing Ahnaf, Abu Sayeed, and others are being protected instead of being brought to justice," he claimed.
Regarding Sheikh Hasina's daughter, Saima Wazed Putul, Rizvi stated, “A deceitful state raises deceitful children, and Sheikh Hasina is proof of that.”
He dismissed the Awami League's upcoming program in February, saying, “People are waiting for your punishment, not your rallies.”
Additionally, he targeted Salman F. Rahman, accusing him of financial corruption. "The dervish has destroyed the banking sector and the stock market. Now he wants to be reborn from his own ashes. If he is prosecuted, people will know that the government is serious about justice," Rizvi concluded.
