Dhaka, Feb 01 (V7N) — Four doctors from the medical board overseeing the treatment of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia have returned to Bangladesh, as her health condition has improved significantly.

BNP Standing Committee member and Khaleda Zia's personal physician, Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, shared the update with reporters after a discussion with the British Bangladeshi Chambers of Commerce in London on Friday local time.

The returning doctors—Professor Shahabuddin Talukder, Professor FM Siddique, Professor Nuruddin Ahmed, and Dr. Zafar Iqbal—will arrive in Dhaka on Saturday via a Bangladesh Biman flight from Heathrow Airport.

Dr. Zahid confirmed that although Khaleda Zia remains at her son Tarique Rahman’s residence in London, she continues to receive round-the-clock medical supervision from specialist doctors Patrick Kennedy and Jennifer Cross of The London Clinic. He also mentioned that Dr. Mohammad Al Mamun is still in London with her.

Khaleda Zia traveled to the UK for treatment on January 7 and spent 17 days under the care of a medical board led by liver specialist Dr. John Patrick Kennedy. She was discharged from The London Clinic on January 24 and has since been staying at her son's residence.

Professor Shahabuddin Talukder recently stated that, given her health risks, a liver transplant is not a viable option. While there are minor kidney issues, they are not currently a major concern.

Supporters and BNP leaders are hopeful that Khaleda Zia will be able to return home soon, as her condition continues to stabilize.
