Comilla, Feb 01 (V7N) — The Bangladesh Chhatra Dal (BJD) has condemned the death of Jubo Dal leader Touhidul Alam in Comilla, alleging that he was subjected to inhumane torture while in custody of joint forces. The student organization termed the incident a ‘murder’ and demanded justice.

In a statement sent to the media on Saturday, Chhatra Dal office secretary Md. Jahangir Alam reported that Touhidul Alam, convener of the Panchthubi Union Youth Party in Comilla Adarsha Sadar Upazila, was detained late at night while preparing for his father's funeral. According to the statement, he later died due to brutal torture inflicted during his detention.

Quoting medical reports and family statements, Chhatra Dal claimed that multiple signs of torture were found on Touhidul’s body, strengthening their allegation of custodial violence.

Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir demanded immediate dismissal and arrest of those responsible, stating that no murderer should be part of the state forces. They accused the interim government of failing to ensure the protection of BNP, Chhatra Dal, and Jubo Dal leaders and activists, claiming that extrajudicial killings have continued even after the fall of the previous government.

They also called for financial and security support for the four daughters of the deceased leader and urged the government to take full responsibility for his trial and justice.

Meanwhile, on the same day, the interim government ordered an ‘urgent’ investigation into the incident following widespread allegations of torture. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that the camp commander involved in the incident has been withdrawn, and a high-level investigation committee has been formed to look into the matter.

The case has sparked outrage among opposition groups, with growing demands for accountability and an end to custodial violence.
