Dhaka, Feb 13 (V7N) – The BNP has filed a formal complaint with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), accusing former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and several top officials of mass killings during last year's student-led anti-discrimination movement.
BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed submitted the complaint to the ICT prosecution office on Thursday morning (February 13). The complaint was accompanied by a letter signed by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
According to the BNP, a total of 848 individuals were killed between July 1 and August 5, 2024, during the student movement against discrimination. The party claims that 524 victims were BNP leaders and activists, while 324 were relatives of BNP supporters and activists. Additionally, over 5,000 activists and supporters were reportedly injured.
As part of the submission, the BNP has provided legal documents from 84 cases filed across the country related to the killings. The party has demanded justice for the victims and accountability for those responsible, including Sheikh Hasina.
The BNP’s complaint names over 500 individuals, including:
- Sheikh Hasina (former Prime Minister)
- Former Home Minister
- Former Law Minister
- Former Information Minister
- Former Education Minister
- High-ranking police officials
The petition alleges that BNP leaders, activists, and anti-discrimination student protesters were indiscriminately shot, tortured, and massacred as part of an effort to eliminate the party. The BNP has urged the International Crimes Tribunal Division to register the allegations, conduct a formal investigation, and initiate legal proceedings against the accused.
