Dhaka, Feb 27 (V7N) – BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has strongly opposed holding local government elections before the national elections, calling it an attempt to manipulate the political landscape. He urged authorities to withdraw from this plan, warning that it could lead to the rehabilitation of a "fugitive dictator" through the local government polls.

Rahman made these remarks on Thursday morning while virtually joining an extended BNP meeting at the LD Hall premises of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

During his address, Rahman emphasized BNP's ongoing efforts to implement a 31-point agenda aimed at ensuring a safe and democratic Bangladesh. He stressed that while 31 points have been set, they are flexible and could be adjusted if necessary to address the evolving political situation.

Criticizing government inaction, he claimed that some advisors’ statements regarding elections were creating public disappointment and that the ruling party had failed to formulate a clear action plan.

Rahman also acknowledged the emergence of new political parties, welcoming them as part of a democratic system. However, he expressed concern over public skepticism regarding the neutrality of the current interim government, urging it to maintain impartiality.

Addressing internal challenges, he warned that conspiracies against BNP had not ceased and called for strengthening the party to counter them effectively. He urged party leaders and activists to prioritize unity despite internal differences, as division could weaken their movement.

Concluding his speech, Rahman reaffirmed BNP's commitment to establishing a government accountable to the people. He called upon party members to stay disciplined, work together, and prepare for the upcoming elections with full dedication.
