Dhaka, Mar 15 (V7N) – UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who is currently visiting Dhaka, did not make any remarks regarding the reform process in Bangladesh, said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Speaking at a roundtable meeting at Hotel Intercontinental on Saturday afternoon, Mirza Fakhrul emphasized that reform is an internal matter of Bangladesh. The meeting was attended by members of the National Consensus Commission and various political leaders.
When asked if the UN Secretary-General had made any statements regarding reforms, the BNP Secretary General responded,
"The UN Secretary-General did not say anything about it. It is our internal matter."
Mirza Fakhrul reiterated that BNP’s priority is electoral-centric reforms and the holding of early national elections. He stated that post-election reforms should be carried out through parliament, as reform is an ongoing process.
Meanwhile, BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed echoed similar sentiments, saying,
"The UN believes that the process of reforms and elections is an internal issue of Bangladesh, and it is up to the people of this country to decide."
The remarks highlight BNP’s continued push for early elections while stressing the party’s stance on internal political matters.
