Dhaka, Apr 09 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has formally requested a meeting with Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor to the interim government, to discuss the announcement of the election roadmap by December 2025.
Salahuddin Ahmed, a standing committee member of BNP, made the request during an informal discussion with reporters following the party’s standing committee meeting at BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s office in Gulshan on Wednesday (April 9).
According to Ahmed, a clear and specific election roadmap is necessary to eliminate the uncertainties surrounding the electoral process. He emphasized that the roadmap should be announced soon to ensure transparency and fairness in the upcoming elections.
Salahuddin Ahmed also outlined BNP's constitutional proposal, emphasizing the importance of maintaining balance in the state. He clarified that the party’s focus is on restoring the provisions of the 15th Amendment to the Constitution, which BNP believes will bring stability and fairness to the electoral system.
In response to questions about secularism, Ahmed stated that BNP has not proposed to abolish secularism as part of their constitutional reform. He noted that there has been a misinterpretation of their position on the issue.
The BNP's stance is aimed at ensuring fair elections and restoring the constitutional order as they seek to play a key role in shaping Bangladesh’s political future.
