Dhaka, Apr 16 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expressed disappointment over the absence of a specific timeline for the upcoming 13th parliamentary election, following a meeting with Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday.

Speaking at a press briefing after the meeting held at Jamuna, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated that while the Chief Advisor mentioned the election could be held between December and June 26, he did not provide a definitive date or a clear roadmap, leaving the BNP "unsatisfied" and concerned.

Mirza Fakhrul warned that delaying the election beyond December could lead to a deterioration of the political situation in the country, which may become increasingly difficult to control. He emphasized that the BNP strongly demands the election be held within December, stressing the importance of clarity and timeliness for maintaining political stability.

The meeting was attended by a seven-member BNP delegation, including senior leaders Barrister Jamiruddin Sarkar, Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salahuddin Ahmed, and Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, alongside Mirza Fakhrul.

The BNP had sought the meeting to understand the interim government’s stance on the election and to push for a concrete schedule. However, with no firm assurance, the party remains cautious and has hinted at escalating political pressure if their demands are not addressed.

The Chief Advisor has yet to respond publicly to the BNP’s concerns.
