Thakurgaon, Apr 29 (V7N)- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has strongly criticized the interim government's decision to allow humanitarian corridors for Myanmar civilians, calling it a "unilateral decision" made without consulting political parties.
Speaking at a public address in Sheikh Bazar area of Jagannathpur Union, Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila on Monday afternoon, Fakhrul emphasized that while humanitarian assistance is important, such a significant decision should have involved national consensus.
"We have no objection to helping people in humanitarian crises. But it has to be done with the support of all the people," Fakhrul said. "We don't want to become another Gaza and get entangled in conflict. Nor do we want to invite chaos into our country."
Drawing parallels with the ongoing war in Gaza, he explained, "Humanitarian corridors are created for delivering aid in war zones, such as from Jordan or Egypt to Gaza. But any such move for Bangladesh must be carefully considered, as it concerns our independence, sovereignty, and future peace and stability."
Fakhrul stressed that providing a humanitarian corridor to Myanmar refugees is a "very big decision" and said the government should have held discussions with all political parties before taking action.
He added, "We are already grappling with the Rohingya crisis. Any new humanitarian arrangement must be evaluated carefully to avoid further complications."
During his speech, Fakhrul also conveyed a message from BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, urging unity and reconciliation. "I have not come here today to seek votes. I have come to deliver the message: 'Let us build the country together with love, without seeking revenge.' Let’s unite to create a country of compassion and peace," he said.
The event was attended by district and upazila BNP leaders, activists, and members of the public.
