Thakurgaon, June 20 (V7N) – BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that India has started carrying out push-ins along the border to exert pressure on Bangladesh’s current interim government. He also claimed that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled to India after the fall of the Awami League government.
Fakhrul made these remarks during an exchange of views with local scholars, ulamas, and imams at the Kalibari area of Thakurgaon on Friday night.
“We don’t get our rightful share of water from India. Our borders have become deadly zones, where Bangladeshis are being shot and killed regularly,” Fakhrul said. “The election date has been fixed after discussions between the Chief Adviser and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. But forming a government alone will not resolve everything—we must ensure that the government works for the people.”
Addressing the religious leaders, Fakhrul said, “No assistance was provided to scholars and ulamas during the previous government. BNP is determined to change that. We want to build an honest and transparent political culture.”
Fakhrul also shared personal anecdotes, saying, “I had to sell my ancestral property to continue politics. We don’t believe in amassing wealth through dishonest means. Politics is about sacrifice and working sincerely for the people.”
He concluded by urging everyone to protect the sanctity of their vote and elect those who will work for the welfare of the country and uphold the values of Islam.
