Dhaka, Aug 27 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has suspended Chairperson’s Advisor Fazlur Rahman from all party positions, including his primary membership, for three months over his “ugly and misleading” remarks about the July Uprising.
A BNP source confirmed the suspension on Tuesday (August 26) evening.
According to the letter issued to Fazlur Rahman, a show cause notice was served on August 24. Instead of providing a written explanation, Rahman initially sought more time. Following his request, the deadline was extended by 24 hours. However, the response he submitted was deemed “not satisfactory.”
The letter further stated that, despite his contributions to the Liberation War as a freedom fighter, the party has decided to suspend him for three months “without taking strict organizational measures.”
It also cautioned him to remain mindful in future public statements: “From now on, when speaking on talk shows or social media, you must ensure that your remarks do not undermine the country’s dignity, party policies, or hurt the religious sentiments of the people.”
