Dhaka, Aug 30 (V7N) – BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has strongly condemned the violent clash between the Jatiya Party and the People's Rights Council in Kakrail on Friday, which left several people injured, including People's Rights Council President Nurul Haque Nur.
In a statement posted on his verified Facebook page at 2:45 am Bangladesh time, Tarique Rahman expressed deep concern over the incident, calling it a threat to the nation’s democratic progress. He also wished Nurul Haque Nur a speedy recovery and urged the government to carry out a proper legal investigation into the attack.
“The BNP strongly condemns the attack on Nurul Haque Nur and the violent incident in Kakrail. We are in a very delicate period of democratic transition, the first step of which is the national election. Together, we must ensure that destabilizing incidents like today do not spread and that our path to democratic progress is not obstructed,” he wrote.
Tarique Rahman further emphasized the need for restraint and unity among pro-democracy forces. “All pro-democracy parties, including BNP and its allies, must uphold tolerance. The true spirit of last year’s mass uprising must be prioritized. Bangladesh must be freed from the grip of mob culture and instability.”
Highlighting the importance of rule of law, the BNP leader added, “To move Bangladesh forward, we must remain vigilant against mob culture, uphold justice, equality, and dignity for all, and empower people through democratic means. Only then can we succeed as a united nation.”
At the conclusion of his message, Tarique Rahman reiterated his call for a thorough investigation into the Kakrail clash and extended prayers for Nurul Haque Nur’s swift recovery.
