Dhaka, Aug 31 (V7N) – Rashed Khan, General Secretary of the People's Rights Council, has strongly rejected the statement issued by the ISPR regarding the attack on President Nurul Haque Nur in front of the People's Rights Council office in Bijoynagar. He clarified that the incident cannot be described as a “mob” attack.
Speaking at a press conference in front of the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Sunday afternoon, Rashed Khan alleged that the army and police carried out a bloody attack on nearly a hundred leaders and activists, including Nurul Haque Nur.
He said, “They called it a ‘mob’ attack, but who formed this mob? We were holding a press briefing in front of our office when some members of the army attacked. If this is called a mob, then that mob was created by the army.”
Rashed Khan further stated that the People's Rights Council rejects the army’s statement. He emphasized that their office was vandalized, and leaders and activists were injured during the incident.
The incident occurred last Friday at around 9 pm, when a chase and counter-chase and brick-throwing incident took place between leaders and activists of the Jatiya Party and the Gana Adhikar Parishad in Kakrail, Dhaka. Subsequently, law enforcement forces lathi-charged in front of the People’s Rights Council office in Bijoynagar, leaving at least 50 leaders and activists, including Nurul Haque Nur, injured.
Nurul Haque Nur is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where a medical board has been formed to oversee his recovery.
