Dhaka, August 2 - Obaidul Quader, the general secretary of the Awami League, addressed the media on Friday, expressing concern over a group's attempts to exploit the situation by manipulating both the government and students. Speaking from the Awami League President Sheikh Hasina's political office in Dhanmondi, Quader emphasized the importance of not using students as pawns in political games.

In his remarks, Quader called on students to return to their classes, highlighting the government's commitment to investigating each case of violence thoroughly. He assured that a judicial inquiry commission has been established to look into recent incidents, including murder cases, with an expanded scope now involving three judges.

Quader welcomed international interest in investigating the recent violence, including from the United Nations, and emphasized the government's openness to such scrutiny. He also stated that instructions have been given to avoid unnecessary harassment or detention of students, ensuring that law enforcement respects the rights of the youth.

Specifically addressing the situation of detained Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinees, Quader mentioned that the concerned ministry is actively working towards their release. He expressed hope that with the government's acknowledgment of the students' main demands, they would now return home, allowing for a conducive environment for education to be restored.

Quader's statements reflect the government's stance on recent events, underscoring a commitment to justice and a stable educational environment, while also seeking to maintain order and prevent further unrest.
