Nov 05, V7N- French veteran Richard Gasquet made a thrilling comeback at the Moselle Open in Metz, France, defeating Brazil’s Thiago Monteiro 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (6) to launch his last appearance at the tournament. Gasquet, 38, who announced plans to retire following the French Open next summer, saved a match point in the final-set tiebreaker to secure the win. He fired 14 aces and won an impressive 89.1% of his first-serve points.
 
Joining Gasquet in the second round were Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert, who took down No. 6 seed Pedro Martinez of Spain in a close three-set match, and Germany's No. 7 seed Jan-Lennard Struff, who rallied to defeat Kazakhstan's Alexander Shevchenko. Cameron Norrie, Quentin Halys, and Lorenzo Sonego also advanced.
 
At the Belgrade Open, Argentina's Tomas Martin Etcheverry, the No. 7 seed, defeated Russia’s Pavel Kotov 6-3, 6-4 without facing a break. Germany’s Daniel Altmaier upset No. 8 seed Luciano Darderi, while Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic thrilled his home fans by defeating Argentina's Mariano Navone. Other winners in Belgrade included Denis Shapovalov, Marin Cilic, Christopher O'Connell, and Aleksandar Kovacevic.
