Berlin, Mar 7 (V7N) — Travelers across Germany are set to face massive flight disruptions on Monday as ground handling staff at major airports go on strike for better pay. The ver.di services union announced the industrial action on Friday, warning of cancellations and delays at key airports nationwide.

The strike will impact Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich, and nine other major airports, disrupting both departures and arrivals. More than 23,000 ground staff are expected to walk off the job in protest.

Ver.di says it is demanding an 8% salary increase or at least €350 ($380) more per month, along with higher bonuses for particularly stressful roles. Union leaders argue that employers have refused to present a meaningful offer in ongoing negotiations.

“We regret the inconvenience this will cause for passengers,” said Christine Behle, ver.di’s deputy chair. “But without industrial action, there will be no movement in negotiations.”

Germany has seen a wave of labor strikes in recent months as workers demand better wages to keep up with rising living costs. Monday’s strike comes amid broader disputes in the public sector and transportation industry.

Airlines are urging passengers to check their flight status and prepare for possible cancellations or long delays. Many affected travelers may need to rebook or seek alternative travel options.
