Kim Yo Jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, has vehemently denied accusations that North Korea has been supplying weapons to Russia. In a statement released by the state news agency KCNA, she described allegations of a North Korea-Russia arms deal as "the most absurd paradox."
The statement comes in response to long-standing claims by the United States and South Korea that North Korea has been providing weapons to Russia for use in the Ukraine war. Moscow has also previously denied these accusations.
Kim Yo Jong dismissed the allegations as unfounded and fictional. She emphasized that North Korea has not engaged in any arms deals with Russia. "There is no arms deal between North Korea and Russia. These accusations are baseless and based on fiction," she asserted.
She further claimed that such rumors are being spread by adversaries to tarnish North Korea's image. "Our country produces weapons not for export, but to counter the threat from South Korea," she stated.
Kim Yo Jong's remarks aim to refute the narrative propagated by Washington and Seoul, as tensions continue to rise over the issue. The North Korean regime remains adamant in its stance that its military capabilities are solely for self-defense against perceived threats from South Korea and other adversaries.
