Washington, August 5 - The United States has expressed appreciation for the Bangladesh Army's measured response during the recent departure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In a statement released on Monday, a White House spokesperson emphasized the importance of respecting democratic rights in Bangladesh and urged the formation of an inclusive and democratic interim government.

The spokesperson noted, "The United States has long called for the respect of democratic rights in Bangladesh, and we are now calling for the formation of the interim government to be democratic and inclusive. We commend the Army for the restraint it has shown today."

The statement comes after a period of unrest in Bangladesh, sparked by a student-led movement demanding the abolition of the quota system in government jobs. The movement intensified into calls for Sheikh Hasina's resignation, culminating in her departure from the country on Monday. The United States' remarks highlight the international community's concern for stability and democratic governance in Bangladesh during this transitional period.
