Kolkata, Sep 08 (V7N)- Protests against the brutal rape and murder of an intern doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical Hospital continue to intensify, with a massive demonstration planned for Sunday night and Monday morning. The "Occupy Kolkata" movement is gaining momentum as people from various professions and backgrounds prepare to take to the streets, not only in Kolkata but also in multiple countries around the world.

From Sunday evening, protestors will march from Taliganj Tram Depot to Hazra Mor, demanding justice for the slain doctor. The international solidarity protests will be held simultaneously in countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Japan, Germany, and Spain. The movement has seen support from a wide range of participants, including Tollywood artists, Kolkata’s potters from Kumortuli, rickshaw pullers, and various other groups.

Protesters in Kolkata will not only march but also create public artworks on the streets, using the city as a canvas to demand justice. These demonstrations have sparked widespread tension in Kolkata, with increased anticipation of potential unrest as the night progresses.

This follows a previous "Occupy Night" protest on August 14, which was similarly marked by public outrage and participation across district towns. The protests have become a rallying cry for justice, as the RG Kar Hospital case is due to be heard in the Supreme Court on 9 September.

Various organisations in Kolkata have pledged to continue their street demonstrations, with the support of a significant section of society. The movement seeks to pressure authorities to deliver justice for the female intern who was murdered and raped within the hospital grounds last month.

The Jadavpur Artist Forum has organised an artistic protest, where participants will use the streets as a canvas, creating paintings and writings at key locations across the city, including Garia Mor, Ganguli Bagan Mor, and the Sukant Setu area, beginning Sunday night. In response to a reported attack by Trinamool Congress members on the previous "Occupy Night" in Cooch Behar, artists and protestors are reclaiming the streets with renewed determination.

In addition to the night protests, a morning demonstration will be held at 6 AM on Monday by the "Canteen Art Collective," which will stage a play in front of the Academy of Fine Arts, highlighting the RG Kar case.

As the protests continue, many participants will observe a 9-minute silence to mark the anniversary of the tragic event, which occurred on 9 August.
