Dhaka, Nov 10 (V7N) — In response to rising political tensions, 191 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed across the country, including in the capital, Dhaka, to ensure law and order. The deployment was confirmed on Sunday morning by BGB Public Relations Officer, Md. Shariful Islam.

The increased BGB presence comes ahead of a scheduled protest march by the Awami League at Shaheed Nur Hossain Square (Zero Point) in Dhaka. The march, set for Sunday, aims to honour Shaheed Nur Hossain and to call for the "removal of undemocratic forces" and the "re-establishment of a democratic system," as announced on the Awami League's verified Facebook page on Friday night.

In a counter-move, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement announced its own demonstration for noon on Sunday at the same location. The group plans to demand accountability from the Awami League, criticising it as a “fallen dictatorship” on social media.

Government officials have expressed concerns regarding these gatherings. Shafiqul Alam, the Press Secretary to the Interim Government’s Chief Adviser, described the Awami League as a "fascist party" on his verified Facebook page, stating that it would not be permitted to hold protest activities in Bangladesh.

This unfolding situation has prompted the government to deploy BGB forces as a precautionary measure, reflecting the broader efforts to manage potential disruptions and maintain public safety amid heightened political dynamics.
