Dhaka, Jan 4, (V7N) – The Detective Branch (DB) of police has arrested a leader of the banned student organisation, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), in connection with a violent attack on students at Dhaka University (DU).
The arrestee, Sajibur Rahman Sajib, who served as the president of the Bijoy Ekattor dormitory unit of BCL, was apprehended on Friday night in Dhaka's Hazaribagh area, Deputy Commissioner of DMP (Media) Talebur Rahman confirmed.
Acting on a tip-off, DB Lalbagh Zone conducted a raid in Zafarbad, Hazaribagh, at around 11:30 pm, leading to Sajib’s capture.
The arrest stems from an incident on July 15 when a group of students held a procession at DU in support of an anti-discrimination movement. During the event, members of the banned BCL launched an attack, injuring over 300 students.
On October 21, Abu Sayed Bin Mahin Sarkar filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station, listing Sajib as the 14th accused in the First Information Report (FIR).
DB Rescues Chairman: DB also rescued a kidnapped Union Parishad chairman and arrested five individuals involved in the abduction.
Sajib is currently in DB custody, and further investigations are underway.
