Dhaka, Mar 23 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Ltd. (BSCCL) has decided to reduce the price of all types of internet bandwidth by 10%, aiming to lower costs for both mobile internet and broadband services. The decision was made during the company’s board meeting on Saturday (March 23).
Faiz Ahmed Tayyab, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor on Postal, Telecommunication, and Information Technology, stated that the government is actively working to make the internet more affordable for the public. He emphasized that cutting costs at the wholesale level is a key initiative toward this goal.
“As a result of this decision, the prices of all bandwidths at the international gateway level will decrease by 10%. Additionally, DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) facilities will be provided to mobile network operators (MNOs) at the backbone level, reducing transmission costs by 39%,” he said.
The government has already held discussions with telecom operators regarding this initiative. According to Faiz Ahmed Tayyab, it is expected that internet prices at the consumer level will also drop by up to 10% following this reduction at the wholesale level.
Furthermore, he revealed that Bangladesh is set to be connected to the third submarine cable, SIMU-6, by mid-2026. This move is expected to enhance the country’s international bandwidth capacity, ensuring better speed and stability for users across the country.
With these initiatives, the government aims to boost digital connectivity and make high-speed internet more accessible for citizens and businesses alike.
