The Inspector General of Police (IGP) was directed by the High Court (HC) on Wednesday, December 27 to provide the location of two BNP leaders who went missing on January 4.

To avoid declaring the inaction of the relevant authorities to produce the BNP leaders before the court unconstitutional, the court established a regulation requesting an explanation.

On January 4, a report on the status of the BNP leaders who are still missing was requested from the IGP. The 14th of December saw them disappear.
Following the hearing of two distinct petitions submitted by the families of the missing leaders, an HC bench consisting of Justices Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman, and Md Bashir Ullah issued the ruling.

In court, senior attorney AJ Mohammad Ali represented the victims alongside Barrister Kaisar Kamal and Ruhul Quddus Kajal.

The two BNP leaders who are missing are Delwar Hossain, the general secretary of the Birkedar union in the same upazila, and Anwar Hossain, the deputy office secretary of the Kahaloo upazila unit.
Attorney Kaisar Kalam filed a writ petition with the HC earlier on Tuesday on behalf of the families.

Respondents to the petitions included the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Detective Branch (DB), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Kahaloo police station. A hearing was set for this Wednesday.

On December 14, the relatives of Anwar claimed that he was picked away by some individuals claiming to be from the Bangladesh Rural Development Board at 5 p.m.

He was then brought to Dupchanchia Upazila in the district and instructed to use his cell phone to contact Delwar. He went there in response to the call, and the two have been missing ever since.
Before the petitions were submitted, little progress was seen in this regard, even though the families filed two general diaries and spoke with police enforcement.

Ultimately, they requested intervention from the HC on Tuesday by submitting writ petitions.
