UN, Aug 20 (V7N) - The United Nations has expressed strong support for Bangladesh's interim government as it undertakes the crucial task of steering the nation through a period of transition.
 
In a letter dated August 16 to Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres conveyed his hope that the interim government would effectively address violence, uphold accountability, and restore law and order.
 
Secretary-General Guterres highlighted the importance of an inclusive approach, urging the interim government to consider the perspectives of youth, women, and minority and Indigenous communities. He emphasized the need for full protection of all citizens, particularly minorities, and called for ensuring the well-being of Rohingya refugees in light of the worsening situation in Myanmar.
 
The UN chief underscored that Bangladesh is at a critical juncture and affirmed the United Nations’ commitment to supporting the development of an inclusive and prosperous democracy. He reiterated the UN's readiness to collaborate with the interim government and provide ongoing support through the Resident Coordinator and the United Nations Country Team to benefit the people of Bangladesh.
