The Teknaf-Saint Martin route has been banned indefinitely from next Saturday (February 10). Cox's Bazar District Commissioner Muhammad Shaheen Imran confirmed the matter on Wednesday (February 7) night.

However, trawlers will operate in this waterway. Apart from this, shipping will also continue on the Cox's Bazar-Saint Martin route. And subject to the necessary approval, the ship will operate on the Teknaf-Saint Martin route.

Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner's Office informed that such a decision has been taken for the sake of security due to the war in Myanmar. The next decision will be taken after reviewing the situation.

Incidentally, across the Ghumdhum border in Bandarban, there is tension on the border due to the internal conflict in Myanmar. A total of 327 members of the country's law and order forces have taken refuge in Bangladesh due to the ongoing conflict in Myanmar in the last few days. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) reportedly disarmed them and kept them safe.

It should be noted that the fight between the rebels and the ruling junta forces in Myanmar has become more intense day by day. The Myanmar junta forces are losing control of one base after another in the war between the two sides. And this fight has spread across the border in Bangladesh as well.

Last Monday (February 5) in the afternoon, two Bangladeshis including a Bangladeshi were killed by a mortar shell fired from Myanmar on Tumbru border in Jalpaitli area of Ward No. 4 of Ghumdhum UP of Naikxyongchari Upazila. On Tuesday, seven people were injured in Ukhia.
