Dhaka, August 21 — The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued a weather warning for 13 districts, forecasting rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 60 km per hour. The warning, which is in effect until 1 pm today, highlights potential storm conditions across several regions.

According to the weather forecast issued for the country's inland river ports, districts including Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Jessore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Comilla, Chittagong, and Sylhet are expected to experience gusty winds from the south/south-west direction. As a precaution, river ports in these areas have been advised to display the number one warning signal.

Additionally, due to the potential for stormy weather over the North Bay of Bengal and the coastal regions of Bangladesh, the Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra seaports have been instructed to show local warning signal number three. The Meteorological Department has also advised fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay of Bengal to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.

This weather alert follows the development of a low-pressure system, currently situated in central Bangladesh and its surrounding areas, which is contributing to the formation of deep convective clouds over the North Bay of Bengal. The extension of the monsoon axis, stretching from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and into Assam, is keeping the monsoon active over Bangladesh, particularly in the North Bay, thereby increasing the likelihood of rainfall across the country.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions, and local authorities are closely monitoring the situation to respond to any potential emergencies.
