Dhaka, Sep 08 (V7N)-  A low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal has intensified, prompting the Bangladesh Meteorological Department to maintain local warning signal number 3 at four major seaports: Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra. The warning comes as the system, currently located in the west-central Bay of Bengal, continues to move north-westwards, bringing the risk of stormy winds and rough seas.

In a statement issued on Sunday morning, the Department of Meteorology reported that maximum sustained wind speeds near the centre of the low pressure are currently 40 km/h, with gusts potentially reaching up to 50 km/h. This has resulted in significant air pressure variations over the North Bay of Bengal, raising concerns about potential disruptions in the coastal areas.

As of 6 a.m. on Sunday, the low-pressure system was positioned approximately 710 km from Chittagong seaport, 670 km from Cox's Bazar, and 575 km southwest of Mongla and Payra seaports. It is expected to continue advancing in a north-western direction, potentially gaining strength.

The Meteorological Department has advised fishing boats and trawlers operating in the North Bay of Bengal to approach the coast with caution until further updates are provided.

The authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and residents of coastal areas have been urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions in case of worsening weather conditions.
