Dhaka, Sep 09 (V7N)– The low pressure system in the Bay of Bengal has strengthened, prompting the Bangladesh Meteorological Department to issue local warning signal No. 3 for four key seaports: Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra.

In a special weather bulletin released on Sunday, the Meteorological Department warned that the low-pressure area could intensify further and move northwestward. The variation in air pressure over the North Bay of Bengal may cause gusty or stormy winds to blow over the region, affecting coastal areas and seaports.

The advisory stated that the maximum sustained wind speeds near the low-pressure centre are currently at 40 km per hour, with gusts reaching up to 50 km per hour. In light of these conditions, fishing boats and trawlers operating in the North Bay of Bengal have been advised to proceed with caution and stay close to the coast until further notice.

The non-governmental organisation Bangladesh Weather Observation Team (BWOT) also indicated that the low-pressure system could intensify into a deep depression and potentially cross Odisha and neighbouring coastal regions of India by the night of September 9. While there is a slight chance of it evolving into a cyclone, BWOT assured that Bangladesh remains out of harm’s way for now.
