Rajshahi, Feb 24 (V7N) - Students protested in front of the Law Advisor’s program in Rajshahi on Monday (February 24) afternoon, demanding urgent improvements in law and order. The demonstration took place at the Primary Training Center, following a workshop on law enforcement, human rights, and immigration, attended by Dr. Asif Nazrul, Advisor for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs.
After the event, about 50 students attempted to meet the advisor, but due to his scheduled return to Dhaka, he could not address them. Protesters then tried to block his vehicle, prompting police intervention. Later, five student representatives were allowed to meet Rajshahi’s Deputy Commissioner, police officials, and the Home Secretary to voice their concerns.
During the meeting, students criticized the deteriorating law and order situation, citing murder, kidnapping, robbery, and rape as growing threats. They complained about police inaction, slow response times, and lack of public trust in law enforcement, even questioning whether citizens should arm themselves for protection.
Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Nasimul Gani, acknowledged the post-August 5 challenges and police hesitation, stating: “We are working to restore order and rebuild confidence in law enforcement.” The Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal emphasized ongoing police reforms, ensuring they would work independently without political influence.
The discussion was attended by Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Afia Akhtar, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abu Sufian, District Superintendent of Police Farzana Islam, and other officials. The protest reflects growing public frustration over security issues, demanding urgent law enforcement reforms.
