Jhalokati, Mar 10 (V7N) - Dr. S.M. Ziauddin Haider Swapan has been appointed as an advisor to the Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), as announced on March 10, 2025. The announcement was made through a press release signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. Dr. Haider, a health and nutrition expert from Naikathi village in Jhalakathi, recently retired as a Senior Health and Nutrition Specialist at the World Bank, bringing over 30 years of experience working in sustainable health and development across 35 countries.
Dr. Haider holds an MBBS from Sher-e-Bangla Medical College in Barisal, a Master's in Food and Nutrition Planning from the University of the Philippines, and a PhD in Nutrition and Epidemiology from Umeå University in Sweden. He has held leadership positions in various global institutions, including BRAC, FAO, the University of Toronto, and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition.
Local BNP leaders have welcomed Dr. Haider's appointment, with Advocate Shahadat Hossain expressing confidence that his leadership will enhance the party's development-oriented approach. In response to his new role, Dr. Haider stated his commitment to implementing the visionary policies of Tarique Rahman and focusing on grassroots development.
Currently serving as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of the Philippines, Dr. Haider has been actively involved in research and policy-making related to health, nutrition, climate change, and poverty reduction. His appointment is expected to strengthen BNP's focus on health and nutrition issues within its broader political agenda.
