Pabna, Mar 10 (V7N) - The Department of Consumer Rights Protection has fined ten businesses in Pabna a total of Tk 201,000 for various market irregularities, including illegal stockpiling of soybean oil, failure to maintain price lists, and selling goods at inflated prices. This enforcement action was part of a day-long drive conducted in the markets of Bhangura and Faridpur upazilas, led by Assistant Director Mahmud Hasan Rony.
Among the major fines imposed, PK Traders in Faridpur received Tk 50,000 for illegal oil stockpiling, while Haji Rabiul Chaul Ghar was fined Tk 40,000 for similar offenses and not keeping cigarette vouchers. Other traders faced fines ranging from Tk 10,000 to Tk 20,000 for not maintaining price lists and selling expired products. Additionally, Taiya Diagnostic Center in Bhangura was fined Tk 20,000 for failing to display service prices and overcharging for medical tests.
Mahmud Hasan Rony emphasized the importance of market surveillance to prevent unfair price hikes during Ramadan, stating that such raids will continue to curb market manipulation. The operation aims to ensure fair trade practices and protect consumers from exploitation during the holy month.
This crackdown highlights the authorities' commitment to maintaining consumer rights and ensuring that businesses adhere to regulations designed to protect the public from unfair practices.
