To restore democracy, Bangladesh opposition party BNP chairman Jamiruddin Sircar emphasized on Tuesday the necessity for his party to launch a grassroots effort to connect with everyday citizens across the nation.
Speaking at a discussion gathering, he also conveyed his sincere desire that, as the Language Movement of 1952 educates people not to bend their heads, people will turn around and assert their rights.
"We now need to knock on people's doors and tell them that the BNP stands for democracy, peace, and the advancement of the ordinary people. The BNP leader remarked, "Inshallah, democracy will return to the country."
Former national parliament speaker Sircar, a member of the BNP standing committee, claimed that the lack of democracy and the rule of law would cause the nation to fall into anarchy.
He claimed that because the BNP has been fighting for democracy and the rights of its constituents, its leaders and members have long faced hardships.
The BNP organized the event at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh, honoring International Mother Language Day and Shaheed Day, which would be respected nationwide on Wednesday.
According to Sircar, the Language Movement was an ideological movement rather than a conventional one. According to him, the Language Movement is a democratic protest against Pakistanis' attempts to replace Bengali as the official language of the country with Urdu.
Bangladesh gained its independence as a result of the Language Movement. We learn from this language movement that we will stand up for our rights and refuse to give up. The BNP leader declared, "We must be able to express our opinions and our rights must be upheld."
Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, another member of the BNP standing committee, stated that Bengalis are the only people in the world who have given their lives, spilled their blood, and battled for their native tongue. "The finest example of giving one's life for one's mother tongue in the last century was Bangla."
He said that by ruthlessly murdering the people who started the Language Movement on February 21, 1952, Pakistanis gifted Bangalis a Shaheed Minar. "But because of Sheikh Hasina, it is now the norm in Bangladesh to build a Shaheed Minar in every home."
The head of the BNP claimed that hundreds of his party's leaders and workers had been murdered or forced to disappear, and that thousands more had been harassed and repressed by the administration of the Awami League.
Bangladesh was freed in order to build democracy, according to Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, a member of the BNP Standing Committee. "Now that the country has gained independence nearly 53 years ago, we have come to a critical point where democracy is dead in Bangladesh."
"Let us take the initiative to restore the people's rights and institute a people's government." People's fundamental rights must be reinstated in the nation. We were, are, and will continue to be in the streets for that reason."
