Dhaka, Feb 27 (V7N) – BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has called for holding an acceptable national election after implementing minimum state reforms to restore democracy. She made these remarks while virtually joining an extended BNP meeting from London on Thursday.

Zia emphasized that the country is going through a critical phase, warning that fascist forces and their allies are still conspiring to undermine the achievements of the mass uprising. She urged everyone to ensure that the sacrifices made for democracy are not wasted.

“We must work in the larger interest of the nation and ensure that no action spoils the gains of the struggle,” she stated.

Calling for unity, the BNP Chairperson urged students and the general public to focus on building a livable and developed Bangladesh through mutual respect and brotherhood rather than seeking revenge. She expressed gratitude for the unity achieved against fascism and paid tribute to the martyrs of the movement while extending condolences to the injured.

Addressing party leaders and activists, Khaleda Zia quoted BNP’s founder, the late President Ziaur Rahman, saying, "The party is bigger than the individual, and the country is bigger than the party." She stressed that the nation must always come first, reminding her followers not to lose sight of this principle.

In her message to the people, she reassured, "Even though I am in the UK for medical treatment, I am always by your side."

Her speech comes at a time of heightened political tension, as BNP continues to push for electoral reforms and greater democratic transparency in Bangladesh.
