CHATTOGRAM, Jan 24, 2025 (V7N)—Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz spearheaded Khulna Tigers to a crucial six-wicket victory over Sylhet Strikers in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
Chasing a modest target of 153, Miraz produced a captain’s knock, scoring a blistering 70 off 50 balls, decorated with eight fours and two sixes. Khulna clinched victory with just one ball to spare, marking their fourth win in nine matches and moving up to fourth in the points table.
Miraz Shines with the Bat
Miraz shared an opening stand of 65 runs with Naim Sheikh, who contributed 20 before falling to Nihaduzzman. Despite a slight wobble when Afif Hossain (3) was dismissed by Shamiullah Shinwari, Miraz steadied the ship with his authoritative innings.
After Miraz was dismissed by Nihaduzzman (2-25), Alex Ross (23) and William Bosisto (19*) ensured Khulna’s victory, with Bosisto sealing the deal with a six to finish on 156-4.
Sylhet's Batting Struggles
Earlier, Sylhet Strikers opted to bat but were restricted to 152-9 despite a strong start. George Munsey’s explosive 58 off 32 balls, featuring six fours and four sixes, and Zakir Hasan’s 44 off 32 set the platform for a big total.
Munsey and Zakir combined for a 74-run stand off just 40 balls, with Munsey particularly aggressive against Miraz and Hasan Mahmud. However, after Abu Haider Rony dismissed Munsey, Sylhet’s innings collapsed, losing eight wickets for 77 runs in 12.2 overs.
Salman Irshad, Hasan Mahmud, and Abu Haider Rony took two wickets apiece, ensuring Khulna had a manageable chase.
With this win, Khulna Tigers remain in the hunt for a playoff spot, while Sylhet Strikers must regroup to avoid further setbacks as the tournament progresses.
