DHAKA, Feb 18, (V7N) – The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has earned approximately Tk 12.25 crore from ticket sales during the recently concluded Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), marking a significant financial success.

BCB President Faruque Ahmed revealed that this revenue is almost equal to the total earnings from ticket sales in the last 10 editions of the BPL, which amounted to Tk 15 crore. Additionally, the board secured a three-year ticket sales agreement worth Tk 1 crore, bringing the total revenue from this season’s BPL to Tk 13.25 crore.

Faruque credited the online ticketing system for the unprecedented response, stating that it played a crucial role in boosting sales. While the system wasn’t fully digital, 35% of tickets were sold online in the first phase and 40% in the second phase, contributing to the record-breaking figures. The strong spectator turnout across Dhaka, Chattogram, and Sylhet further demonstrated the growing popularity of the league.

Addressing the issue of profit-sharing with franchises, Faruque stated that since the board now has a clear understanding of profits, franchises will receive a share of the ticket revenue—a demand they have been making for years.

Looking ahead, BCB is considering rescheduling the BPL to avoid conflicts with T20 leagues in Dubai and South Africa, which have impacted the participation of high-quality foreign players in recent seasons. “We are working on finding a feasible time for the next BPL to attract better international players,” Faruque said.

Despite some challenges, he hailed this year's BPL as a resounding success, citing strong fan engagement, improved pitches, high ticket sales, and quality TV production.
