Feb 19 (V7N) – The long-awaited venue plan for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics will be revealed on March 25, marking the end of years of uncertainty over key infrastructure decisions.
A Queensland government panel, tasked with reviewing venue options, will present its findings on March 8, with Premier David Crisafulli's administration set to respond later in the month. The delay in finalizing stadium plans has sparked concerns, with Australian Olympic Committee CEO Matt Carroll warning that a decision must be made by June to keep preparations on track.
Brisbane’s main stadium debate has been a major sticking point. A A$2.7 billion Gabba redevelopment and a A$3.4 billion new stadium in Victoria Park were both scrapped under the previous government. Former Premier Steven Miles' alternative plan, which involved using Lang Park for ceremonies and QSAC for athletics, was heavily criticized as inadequate.
Premier Crisafulli has opposed building a brand-new stadium but recently signaled a willingness to consider alternative solutions. Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie assured that the final plan will "get the Games back on track" and ensure Queenslanders are proud of their Olympic showcase.
With just seven years until Brisbane 2032, all eyes are on the upcoming announcement to see if the government can deliver a world-class venue strategy.
