Mymensingh, Dec 07 (V7N) – Dr. Dhandeb Barman, the in-charge of the Casualty Department at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, has been relieved of his duties following reports of arrogant and inappropriate behavior towards the Director General (DG) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Professor Dr. Md. Abu Zafar. A show-cause notice has also been issued, requiring Dr. Barman to respond within 24 hours.
Assistant Director (Administration) of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, Dr. Main Uddin, confirmed the suspension on Saturday evening.
The incident occurred earlier on Saturday morning when Professor Dr. Abu Zafar visited the hospital as the chief guest for a seminar discussing recent advancements and challenges in treating pediatric urinary and reproductive system disorders. Prior to the seminar, the DG inspected the hospital, reviewing service standards, emergency department operations, patient management, and staff attendance.
During the inspection, Dr. Barman reportedly expressed frustration over departmental limitations, staff shortages, and work pressure. This led to a heated exchange of words with the DG, which was deemed arrogant and inappropriate. The confrontation quickly drew attention on social media.
Dr. Main Uddin stated, “The DG was questioning Dr. Barman regarding service standards. Responding with such heated words and behavior was unacceptable. Proper conduct is expected during official inspections.”
The hospital administration emphasized that the suspension and notice are part of maintaining professional decorum and accountability among medical staff.
