DHAKA, APR 26 (V7N) - Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has set forth a series of stringent directives aimed at ensuring fiscal discipline and accountability in the management of government development projects. The directives emphasize aligning all development initiatives with the current government's election manifesto and overarching development plans, with a clear focus on improving the lives of the general public.
State Minister for Planning Zonayed Abdur Rahim Saki shared these details with reporters following the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting at the Cabinet Division in Dhaka, which was presided over by the Prime Minister.
Saki explained that the Prime Minister's instructions were unambiguous regarding the management of national funds. "The PM directed that the government must exercise thrift in its spending, ensuring that the eligibility and necessity of every expenditure be strictly evaluated before approval is granted," Saki noted, signaling a shift toward stricter oversight of how taxpayer money is allocated across various sectors.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister underscored that the primary goal of all development projects must be to enhance the well-being of the general population. To ensure this objective is met, an ongoing auditing and review process is being implemented to maintain alignment with national priorities.
Addressing concerns over the pace of development, Saki revealed that the Prime Minister ordered investigations into the reasons behind the delays in several project implementations. He added that the PM had provided specific feedback on various project proposals, stressing that development must be sustainable, environmentally responsible, and focused on improving citizens' quality of life.
