Cox’s Bazar, Sept 15 (V7N) — In a high-risk pre-dawn operation on Sunday, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 2,40,000 yaba pills worth nearly Tk 2.5 crores from the Naf River in Teknaf.
According to BGB, three suspected drug traffickers abandoned the consignment and fled to Myanmar after spotting patrol boats. They were identified as Abdur Rahim Badsha (42) of Jadimura area, Mohammad Ayaz alias Rubel (26) of Damdamia area, and Jasim Uddin (25) of the same locality.
Lieutenant Colonel Ashiqur Rahman, commanding officer of Teknaf 2 BGB Battalion, confirmed the incident. Acting on intelligence that a large consignment of yaba would be smuggled from Myanmar, multiple BGB teams were strategically deployed along the river. Around dawn, the traffickers were seen swimming across the border with sacks. As BGB patrol boats advanced, the suspects dropped the packages into the river and swam back to Myanmar.
The floating sacks were swiftly recovered, revealing 2,40,000 yaba tablets. No arrests were made as the traffickers crossed into Myanmar territory.
BGB officials said the operation underscores their determination to secure the border and crack down on narcotics trafficking.
