Rangamati, Feb 11 (V7N) Police have arrested Nikhil Nath (58), an Upazila Awami League leader and the prime accused in the 2006 murder case of Captain Nurul Alam Gazi of the 24th East Bengal Regiment in Naniarchar, Rangamati.

Acting on a secret tip-off, police conducted a raid on Tuesday afternoon (February 11) and arrested Nikhil Nath from the Hospital Para area of the upazila.

Naniarchar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Nazir Alam confirmed the arrest. Nikhil Nath, known as the office secretary of the Naniarchar Upazila Awami League, was taken into custody following a warrant issued under Section 302/34 of the Penal Code.

Legal Action and Investigation

OC Nazir Alam stated, “Based on secret information, we arrested Nikhil Nath, the No.1 accused in the murder case registered on December 27, 2006. After completing legal procedures, he will be sent to jail.”

A police team led by Inspector Md. Nazir Alam conducted the operation, arresting Nikhil Nath from the Naniarchar Upazila Health Complex area.
