Bengaluru, Oct 17 (V7N) – The Bengaluru Test resumed on its second day after heavy rain disrupted the first day, but it quickly turned into a nightmare for the Indian cricket team. The hosts were bowled out for a mere 46 runs in their first innings against New Zealand, marking India's lowest Test score at home.
Fast bowlers Matt Henry and William O'Rourke wreaked havoc on the Indian batting lineup, leading to this dismal performance. This score surpasses India's previous lowest innings total at home, which was 75 runs against the West Indies in a Delhi Test in 1987.
This latest total stands as the third lowest in India's Test history and the 18th lowest score overall in Test cricket.
On a day to forget for Indian fans, Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal were the only players to reach double figures, scoring 20 and 13 runs, respectively. The remaining batters struggled significantly, with most departing for single-digit scores, leaving the team reeling.
As India looks to recover from this shocking collapse, the team will need to regroup quickly to put up a stronger performance in the remaining days of the Test match.
