Dhaka, Nov 21 (V7N) Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh's star all-rounder and former captain, has sparked speculation about his return to the national team after his surprising exit from the T20 format and ongoing uncertainty about his Test cricket future.

During a media interaction in Dubai ahead of the Abu Dhabi T10 League, Shakib was asked about his potential return to international cricket. Smiling, he replied, "We will see you after this tournament." When pressed about his participation in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy set for February-March next year, Shakib maintained focus on the T10 League, saying, "I am fully focused on this tournament now."

Shakib last donned the Bangladesh jersey in the T20 World Cup in the West Indies, where he was pivotal for the Tigers. However, during Bangladesh's Test series in India, Shakib abruptly announced that he would no longer feature in T20 internationals for the national team. Although he expressed a desire to formally conclude his Test career at home against South Africa, logistical challenges prevented him from doing so.

Shakib has not retired from ODI cricket, keeping the door open for a possible appearance in next year’s ICC Champions Trophy, a tournament crucial for Bangladesh’s aspirations. His recent statement has fueled hopes among fans that the 75-test veteran might make a comeback, potentially using the Champions Trophy as a farewell stage.

The Abu Dhabi T10 League, where Shakib is currently playing, will conclude on December 2. The Bangladesh national team is then scheduled to face the West Indies in an ODI series starting December 8. It remains uncertain if Shakib will join the squad for this series, adding another layer of intrigue to his future plans.

As one of Bangladesh’s most celebrated cricketers, Shakib's return—or official retirement—will undoubtedly be a significant moment for the cricketing world. Fans are eagerly waiting for clarity on his next move.
