DHAKA, Jan 8, (V7N) – The Bangladesh Under-19 Women’s cricket team kept their hopes alive in the four-match T20 series against Sri Lanka with a hard-fought four-wicket victory in the third match in Colombo today.
Trailing 2-0 in the series, the win ensured that Bangladesh could still draw the series by winning the final game.
Electing to bat first, Sri Lanka managed 109-6 in their 20 overs, with Dahami Senethma and Hiruni Hansika scoring 24 each. Bangladesh's Anisa Akter Shobha was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2-17 to restrict the hosts.
In response, Bangladesh reached the target in 19.4 overs, scoring 113-6. Opener Fahmida Choya led the charge with a match-winning 38 runs, while Afia Ashima (26) and Sadia Islam (24) provided crucial contributions.
Sri Lanka won the first two matches of the series, putting Bangladesh under pressure to avoid a series defeat. With today’s victory, the series stands at 2-1, with the final match offering Bangladesh a chance to level the contest.
This series is part of Bangladesh’s preparation for the upcoming ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in Malaysia from January 12 to February 2.
Bangladesh are placed in Group D alongside Australia, Nepal, and Scotland. Their recent performances against Sri Lanka will boost their confidence ahead of the global showcase event.
